midsummer / moving on

This is inspired by idealized roadtripping and WestKust’s Last Forever album. Specifically, Summer 3D and 0700, but the whole album is pure gold

Man do I hate the chore of driving. But I love driving and racing games. And I really love roguelikes. Last year I stumbled upon a beautiful 2D roguelike roadtrip sim with item/survival management bits and turn based ‘battles’ somehow, called Keep Driving. It’s neat!

Loved it so much I platinumed it. It’s super cozy and a joy to look at. Somehow they got the feel of a bright eyed summer journey without the baggage of feeling your body decaying in real time from sitting for hours

The first cruising music album you unlock is from WestKust, a shoegaze band. Never heard of that genre of music till now. It sounds like The Pillows, the band from the FLCL soundtrack, which I thought was just totally unique. No, that’s just what shoegaze can sound like. I'm really ignorant to music genres! I’m now a big fan and am actively seeking new bands

There's a North American native version of the lily of the valley. Found out when looking up if it would be out of place to paint one in the corner since I was going for vague north American grass. It's so dainty. Nature really do be duping itself in the most random places :)

The initial sketch had a tiger-ish cat in the car but upon painting it in, it changed the mood I was going for. So it got replaced with aloe vera :p
